Last March marked the 81st anniversary of the Biblioth\u00e8que Nationale d’Ha\u00efti (BNH). This prestigious octogenarian institution continues its mission of preserving and promoting all the knowledge produced in Haiti. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A dinner was organized for employees to mark the occasion, and many projects are already on the drawing board. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At a time when today’s young people are less and less interested in reading, the national library has no intention of failing in its mission. On the bangs of this anniversary, <\/span>The institution’s General Manager, Mr. Dangelo N\u00e9ard, announced strategic action plans to enable the library to better fulfill its mission. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

First of all, the CEO and his team are working hard to revitalize all departments.<\/span><\/p>\n

After 81 years, <\/span>the NHL finally has its own website. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Jacmel branch was refurbished and reopened after a 3-year closure.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>A systemic enhancement of all frames is in sight.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>Our employees are extremely qualified, and do a brilliant job of managing document collections,” explains N\u00e9ard. Unfortunately, this profession is not highly valued or recognized in Haiti. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The DG intends, in conjunction with his supervisory ministry, to create a special status for employees who, he says, exercise a trade that is not in the official nomenclature of trades recognized in Haitian legislation. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>“These guardians of knowledge will soon be treated differently at all levels,” promises the presenter of the Caribbean TV program “Des Livres et vous”. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from the employees who will be taken into account, Mr. N\u00e9ard announced the reconstruction of the 81-year-old establishment, which he said no longer meets international standards. The BNH’s organic law will also be rethought, as it is no longer congruent with current reality. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For the digitization of its documentary holdings, the BNH has signed an agreement with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, says Dangelo. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The library plans to install books of interest to all categories of young people. At the same time, it plans to organize rap competitions, <\/span>hip-hop and raboday to help young people reconcile with books.<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Theatre’s dance and drama sections put on a fine show for BNH employees, <\/span>under the watchful eye of General Manager Yves P\u00e9nel. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Emmanuel Jean Fran\u00e7ois and Mr. Dangelo N\u00e9ard, <\/span>respectively DG of the DNL and DG of the BNH, also left satisfied.<\/span><\/p>\n

A book is a vitally important visa that allows you to travel without moving. So BNH <\/span>offers this visa to anyone in Haiti who wants to travel around the world in a short space of time.
